Lots of Love

We are home and trying to adjust. I don't know what I would do without my Mom and sister here to help! Addison is really a good baby. She eats, sleeps, and poops just great! The kids love her and Brinley is such a big help getting supplies, changing diapers, or just holding her.

The first night we were home Addison needed a diaper change and Brinley wanted to do it. She got all the stuff, undid her outfit and onesie, pulled down the diaper and then jumped back and decided she did not want to change her diaper after she saw lots of black poop. It was pretty funny to watch.

My sleeping princess 4 days old. She has the cutest dimple on her left cheek! She also loves to sleep with her head tilted way back and her hands by her face. I think she is trying to stretch out after being so cramped for so long!

Oh yeah, the stats, some fact and more pics

Okay, so I am guy and just realized (with some prompting from Jami’s aunt Debbie and Grandma Murray) that I forgot to put Addison’s stats up. I really did intend to, twice actually. :)

Born: October 5th, 2009 (same Birthday as her aunt Alisha who is here visiting/watching the kids.
Time: 7:07 PM.
Weight: 8 pounds 10 ounces. Matt and Brin were both about 9 pounds.
Length: 20.5 inches. Matt was 21 inches and Brinley was 23 inches.
Head Circumference: 14 inches.
Very little hair, kind of a light brown peach fuzz.
She has Brinley’s feet although not quite as long.
She has Matt's bum shape.
Round face with chubby cheeks and a cute little double chin.

Addison is our smallest baby so far, but supposedly still a bigger baby according to the nurses.

Addison's feet are like Brinley's. Brinley had really long feet with a small, bony heel and always did this little toe spread thing with the little toe curled.

The picture below is of Brinley when she was just a few weeks old and shows how big her feet were. 4.5 years later, Brinley's feet are still are quite big.

The kids and "Grammy" coming to see "Baby Addi" again, the morning after her birth. Again, Matt wanted me to "Get out" of there and come out by him with baby Addi.

Here are a few bits of into and things going on that Addison may be interested in when she is older and looks back on this.

Cheapest Gas around: $2.29

Concerns in the world: Swine flu (the reasons Brin and Matt can’t see Mom and hold Addi), the national economic recession, the stock market and real estate crashes, unemployment rising, major bank failures and government bailouts etc.

U.S. President: Barack Oboma who is the first African American President – Elected as the 44th President on November 2009.

Weather: Morning of induction was bright and sunny but changed to rainy and cloudy throughout day. Next day (first full day of life) was bright and beautiful with snow capped mountains to the west.

Mom’s cravings during pregnancy: ADVENTURE! She has been wanting to go hike the Subway in Zions National Park among other adventurous things that pregnant woman really shouldn’t do. Sandwiches and chocolate, but those are both constant cravings regardless of pregnancy.

Parents Employment: Mom working about 1 day a week doing pediatric home care, taking care of children on Vents and Trachs. Dad is working from home office, putting together multifamily real estate deals, brokering bank foreclosures in Utah and managing our income properties in Utah and Arizona.

Interesting Facts: Addison is the first baby to be born outside of Utah out of our little immediate family, Brian or Jami and their siblings, ALL of Addison’s Aunts and Uncles and cousins on both sides, ALL of Addison’s Grandparents and great grandparents on both sides, all her great, great grandparents and about anyone else I can think of. :)

Current Family Pets: Brinley and Matt each have a hermit crab. Two tarantulas, 7 snakes (we are selling some and all of which are in Dad’s home office. Six of them are 7-10 feet in length) and about 18 rabbits in cages in the back yard (snake food).

Mom and Dad both had omelets, with Dad’s being a Denver omelet in honor of Addie being born in the Denver area. Dad had hot coca (overpriced at $1.50 for 2 Swiss miss packets) and mom had wheat toast, orange juice and a fruit plate.

Addison Grace McDonald...I can't believe she's here!

Okay, so things have calmed down a bit here. The kids and Jami's mom and sisters came over and saw the baby (through the glass anyway).

This has been the best night and delivery! Jami and I are so excited that it happened so fast. Of course, right after a woman has a baby is NOT the right time to talk about having another one, but if Jami's deliveries keep getting this much better each time, I could see us having many more children. The Dr. and nurses were shocked when I told them great job and that we would definitely come here next time we delivered. The Dr. said three is a good number suggesting we might stop there. I said something to him about being from Utah and having big families so we would probably be having more.

So here are some more pics.

Jami less than a minute after giving birth "I just can't believe how fast, intense and painful the last 1/2 hour was. It was like everything was fine and then the next thing we knew she was here! We didn't even have time to call my mom and tell her to come over."

Brinley and Matt were soooooo excited to finally see her. They have been waiting patiently for months. Brinley was showing me how long she was compared to baby Addi (with Addison in the background getting her first bath).


Matt thought it was pretty cool and wanted to come in the nursery with me. When he realized he couldn't come in, he kept telling me to "Get out" and come by him. He has been a little sick and was pretty tired tonight. After the kids watched me and the nurse give Addi her first bath we went and ate smoothies and pizza at the Hospital Cafe before they went back home with Grammy to go to bed.

We are soooooooooo grateful for Jami's mom and sisters and their willingness to help out and watch our kids. It has been so nice!


Mom amd Dad are so happy. What a great experience! Baby Addi is sleeping soundly (now in Moms arms) and has been sleeping for hours. Jami is doing well and is way tired and exhausted. Time for bed!

Getting closer!

So as of about 6:35PM, Jami was dilated to an 8 and about 80-90% effaced (for those of you who know what that means) :)

A false sense of optimism??

Okay, so maybe things aren't moving as fast as we thought they were. We were thinking this was going to be much faster delivery than the last two, but the Dr. came in about 4:40 PM and said that Jami is still about the same as she was a few hours ago. So this may be a while after all...


Having a baby outside of Utah is definitely a different experience that what we have had in the past. It is....I want to say lonely, but Jami and I have each other so it is not lonely....maybe a good word is different. It is not the party with all the close family that we have had in the past. Especially because my Dad delivered Brinley and Matt, it was always such a close family experience with everyone around. I am glad that my Dad delivered me and was able to deliver our first two children which was a great experience. This experience is more about Jami and I growing closer together as a couple and welcoming little baby Addison into the family we have already established. It is a similar to the first two, but for me distinctly different.



Anyone that knows me well, knows I love ice cream and eat as much of it as often as I can. I was so excited to order ice cream with my room service lunch/dinner and was even more ecstatic it was only 75 cents. I was totally let down when I got this little can! I was so disappointed I sent it back and will get a shake or something later. Yesterday, in preparation for the big day, I had two bowls of vanilla ice cream with cinnamon mixed in (a favorite from my youth) and two Pina Colada's with vanilla ice cream mixed in (thanks again Mom for the recipe. It is simple and amazing!)


Jami is sleeping and feeling great. The blessings of modern technology (epidurals) are amazing! It is so cool to have Jami be in such comfort and good care and to have the technology available to update those close to us with voice, text and/or pictures instantaneously.
